A Bit About Dr. Hyland…

I have been an educator for 20 years, serving students from birth to age twenty-one across public, charter, specialized, agency, and in-home settings. Within the Brandywine School District, I have held roles as Coach, Special Education Teacher, Special Education Coordinator, Dean of Students, and Assistant Principal.

My foremost reason for entering education—and the motivation that still drives me today—is a genuine desire to serve young people and help them thrive. I am deeply grateful for the many opportunities I’ve had to make a meaningful difference in my students’ lives. I believe that when an educator helps a young person recognize the promise of their own future, it is a job well done.

In addition to being the proud mother of three extraordinary young adults, I have contributed to the field through doctoral research examining alternatives to student exclusion—specifically Positive Behavior Interventions & Supports, Restorative Practices, and Social Emotional Learning.
The sum of my personal and professional experiences has shaped a strong core belief in the boundless possibility of every young person. While success may look different for each student, I firmly believe that all students have potential and are deserving of the very best we have to offer.
I am thrilled to be part of the Mount Pleasant High School community and look forward to a fantastic year ahead.

Let’s go Green Knights!
