Mount Pleasant High School
Black Student Union
Advisor: Ms. Pritchett
The Black Student Union was founded by Jada Thomas and Tyler Busch in 2018 at MPHS, based on the principles of self-determination, self awareness, and unity. The club strives to educate students about African American heritage, societal and global issues, physical/mental/emotional health, knowledge of rights and resources, and about the responsibilities and commitments we should have to serving our communities. BSU aims to inspire, motivate, and elevate students to a higher social, intellectual, and moral level that further enhances their educational experiences at MPHS.
Meetings: We meet monthly in room 215. Snacks are provided at each meeting.
Meetings include fun ice breakers, open discussions, interactive activities on historical, social, and breaking news from the African American community. Guest speakers are also featured during select meetings.
Membership: Students can join by attending any meeting of their choice. When new to a meeting, students will be asked to complete a member form and survey to ensure we are addressing areas of interest for all participants.
