AVID
In April 2024 Mount Pleasant High School was named an AVID National Demonstration School. This elite designation has been awarded to only 214 of 8,000 AVID schools worldwide. Advancement Via Individual Determination (AVID) is a national program providing students with academic skills, content knowledge, and the social adaptability to be successful after graduation. AVID National Demonstration Schools are exemplary models of the AVID College Readiness System. Demonstration Schools undergo a rigorous validation process and are required to be revalidated every few years to ensure high levels of implementation, with quality and fidelity to AVID strategies schoolwide. As a national demonstration site, Mount Pleasant High School hosts administrators and teachers from other school districts around the country, serving as a center of teaching and learning to model systems for AVID implementation. Mount Pleasant High School first implemented AVID in 2005, and all middle and high schools across BSD now use the college and career readiness system.
